For Dior, the world is literally a stage. Over the years, collections have been showcased at dreamy locations around the world, including in India, Spain, France, and Morocco. The revered fashion house has seen numerous design geniuses take the creative reigns, namely Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferre, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri.
So far, even some of the best Dior runway shows have featured the “New Look.” Throwing it back to the 1940s, the term was coined at Dior’s very first show, with the objective of representing the end of World War II. It featured cinched waists, structured silhouettes, and billowy skirts. The designs were revolutionary for the time period, putting the house on the global map as one of the most sought-after. Fast forward to today, these designs are still very much a part of the house, albeit merged with modern sartorial tastes.
In 2016, Dior made history by hiring Maria Grazia Chiuri — its first female artistic director. Adding a woman’s touch to the style and aesthetic of Christian Dior, she created her popular feminist-centric line, but till today manages to keep the original design codes intact. In doing so, she has seized an important place for the brand in the fashion world, making it contemporary and classic at the same time.

Dior Cruise 2023 Show in Seville, Spain
Last year, the Plaza de Espana in Seville was transformed into a beautiful runway lined with roses. It was for the Dior show that consisted of 110 looks giving tribute to Spain’s sartorial history, from equestrian motifs to flamenco-inspired dresses, intentionally in the Spanish colors of blacks, reds, creams, and gold. Carmen Amaya, who was the first female flamenco dancer to wear men’s clothing, was Chiuri’s inspiration for the show.
Dior Pre-Fall 2023 Show at the Gateway of India, Mumbai
Against the backdrop of the magnificent Gateway of India, Maria Grazia Chiuri chose to showcase all of the many ways that Christian Dior has been interlinked with Indian craftsmanship for many years. The runway was adorned with a carpet of multicolored flowers, and the models sashayed down, flaunting sari-style skirts, printed jackets, and flowy dresses. Indian traditional handicrafts made by the skilled artisans of the Chanayka atelier in Mumbai were the highlight of the show — including mirrored Rajasthani embroidered mini-dresses. It was indeed a celebration of the country and its rich hues, flowing from black to beige into green and yellow, then to pink and purple and greyish brown.
Dior Resort 2020 Show in Marrakech
For its Resort 2020 collection, the French fashion house traveled to one of the most stunning locations in the world — Marrakech. Held in the historic El Badi Palace, the Moroccan city not only served as host to Dior’s latest runway show but its artists and culture helped inspire and create the designs. There was a series of collaborations with several African artists, offering a refreshing perspective from Dior. Several pieces were crafted with utmost precision using pure African Wax — made from cotton that had been grown, spun, and printed in Africa.
Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2023 Show in Paris
Paying homage to the style of French-American jazz singer and dancer Josephine Baker, Dior presented a dazzling collection for its Haute Couture runway in Paris that featured metallic-hued jacquards, crushed velvet, clean silhouettes, and beaded fringes swaying down the runway. This time, Maria Grazia looked for inspiration in Baker’s stage style, her love of suits, as well as the uniforms she wore when she was a member of the resistance in France during the Second World War. A luxurious robe-like coat over a satin bodysuit, a black velvet jumpsuit, and several sleek coats worn on top of long, pleated skirts formed a part of yet another exquisite Dior show.
